Unforgetable Night at Shillong..
We went to north-east India in October,2002 for the first time.Visited Guahati, Shilong, Cherapunji, Tejpur,Rangapara and Bhalukpong. We also went to holy Kamakshya Temple at Guahati but couldn't be able to devote our prayer due to shortage of time.So me, my mother, one of my aunty and her six year old daughter decided to go there again.It was mainly for giving puja at the temple but we finalized the tour in a way so that we could also spend some time at Shillong as we had not visited all places the previous time.
We started on 6th June in 2003.Reached Guahati the next day and got into the same Lodge of Govt of Assam we had previously.Only for that day we took only one room though it was hard to make them agree.Next morning we headed for Kamakshya temple and stood in the big queue.
After some hours we completed our puja. Then our panda made arrangement of 'Kumari Puja'.In the afternoon we went to panda's house and took lunch there.In the evening we returned to hotel,checked out and took bus for Shiilong from Guahati bus stand. We could have went to Shillong the next day but thought it will be better to pay for that night in Shillong hotel than this as we could start Shillong trip from early morning the next day.
When we reached Shillong it was almost 9 and we had no idea what could be the situation there at 9.Every hotels,shops have been closed.Even the street lights have been turned off.We've information about a hotel just beside bust stand named 'Swastik Hotel' where one of our relatives had stayed some days before.So we rushed to that hotel without thinking anything.They reopened the door for us.
But to increase our misery the hotel manager said that there is no room available in his hotel.We had no idea how to spend that night.Finally after seeing our condition that person was kind enough to make some arrangements for us.He called all nearby hotels and
after many tries he told us that there is a suite available at "Orchid Hotel", rate being Rs.1500 per night.We were in no position to thinking of something else.
But how to go there now this became a question.Ultimately the manager of 'Swastik Hotel' made arrangement of a luggage maruti van in which there were no seat. We went to that hotel almost standing and took accomodation there.
That Bengali hotel manager told us to call him next morning if he could make some accommodation in his hotel. We called him and he confirmed that room is available and we immediately moved from this costly hotel and got there in.
After that we spend two whole days there and visited many places in Shillong. We took the train from Guahati the second day night and reached Kolkata the day after.
It was a very short tour of just 3 days excluding the train journey but we enjoyed a lot at Shillong.
But till now we get scared thinking that if that kind hotel manager didn't help us at that night what could've happened to us as we were only single man that's me and three ladies.He appeared to us as a God for that night.
