My Joining Day in Job
I completed my BTech in July 2005 and got job in a reputed MNC in January in 2006.But my experience of first day and the day before will never be forgotten.
I got the news that I've been recruited on the evening of 11th of January while a short trip to Bakkhali had already been planned by us on next day morning. We as usual started for the trip and reached Bakkhali. We were eight persons including my parents, elder brother and his wife and one of my uncle's family.
We got in WBTDC's hotel and took the lunch there. Then we went to the beach side and spent an wonderful evening. While returning back to the hotel suddenly we got a call in cell that my office wants me to join the next day.At that very moment I was totally perplexed what to do because it is a very remote area where there is no regular traffic available at night to reach Kolkata.
Thinking for a few moments we decided by talking with local people that if we can catch the last train at 9 from Kakdwip we can reach Sealdah station by 12.Then there will not be any problem to get a taxi to reach home. So three of us, me and my parents, started from Bakkhali by last bus at 6:30 which will take us to Namkhana.
But perhaps God didn't want to help us reach home by that night. So we started getting trouble one by one.Firstly the bus from there began to go late seeking for more passengers. We three couldn't stop us to stare at our watches every minutes.Even the copassengers started making different coments both positive and negative about catching the last train. But we were making our mind that we'd surely succeed.
The bus finally reached Namkhana and we ran towards the river and took a boat to cross the river. It was almost 8:15 then. The river ride is only of 5 minutes but while approaching the shore our boat made a contact with another and we're almost to dive into the river. We came out of the boat and found a villager's van rikshaw who agreed to take us to Kakdwip station.
We're moving very fast towards the station and just midway it was a powercut over there. And everyone can imagine how this looks like in a village....a complete blackout. The van driver asked us to give light by a torch if possible. We had a torch and lit it up but after 2-3 minutes it also went off due to no power from battery. Then it was not possible to go fast though before reaching the station all lights came back.
We're just to enter the station, heard a long whistle and the train went away. The last hope gone. The local people told that we're fortunate that we missed the train because often robbery took place in this last sealdah bound train.
At this position we're in a crtical situation what will be our next step and was thinking if it helped us in any way to move to Kakdwip from Bakkhali at night. If we were to start at morning then we could easily do that from Bakkhali. But we had to face the circumstances.
Getting advice from the local guys we decided that we'll catch the first bus in the morning at 4.We took a hotel room nearby which was of very low quality but as we've to spend just some hours almost sleeplessly we
went for it.We took the dinner and get into the room.
Our other team members in Bakkhali were also in a doubtful situation.Because neither of them or we could contact each other due to poor mobile network there. They didn't even know that we got the train or not.
Finally before 4 in the morning we headed for the bus stand. There were only three of us in road in a chilly night of winter and not even any dog. There were no sign of starting of any bus. At about 4:30 a tea shop opened and 3-4 people were seen.We took tea and one of those people went to wake up the driver and conductor of the bus.At about 5, a bus started and we boarded it.
Thanks to God this time the bus ran very well and made us reach Esplanade by 7.30.We took a taxi and reach home by 8:10.Quickly I got prepared and caught the train at 9 and reached my office at 10.
It was possible that I might have not joined on that day by making an excuse, but after being decided for it and starting from Bakkhali what were happened to us gave us an lifetime experience. We came face to face with real tension.
