Tour to Kedar-Badri
It was 21st May,1991. Rajib Gandhi died in a bomb blast. Chaos started everywhere throughout the India.We had tickets booked on Doon Express on 24th.Advise came from everyone to cancel the tickets immediately.But all of us decided that we must go except my father.It was a hard time to make him agree.At last we succeeded.
On 24th we started for Howrah station after watching Rajib Gandhi's funeral on TV.Getting on the train we amazed to see that many of the seats are blank due to this incident.We were ten including my uncles,aunties and brothers and probably we were the biggest family in the entire train.
We reached Hardwar on 26th.After couple of days we went to Rishikesh.From there we started for Gourikund.In between the road to Gaurikund we suddenly decided to spend a night at Shonproyag where Lord Shiva is said to marry Goddess Parvati.
It's a very holy place.We spend the night there in a hotel and next day morning went to the Shiv temple.After that we again started and reached Gaurikund in the evening.
Next morning we started our trek to Kedarnath.It was a lovely trek route with full of pilgrims throughout.We took rests in the 'chati's.After about eight kilometers we reached 'Ramwada Chati' and decided to stay there.It was just beside the river 'Mandakini' and its roar was mindblowing.We started experiencing the bite of cold.
Next day we started for the remaining path.It was becoming very tough for me and my brothers of just 10-12 years old to
move on but we were determined not to take help of horses or 'dandi's.The roadside beauties were lessening our tiredness.We finally reached the holy temple in the afternoon.
In the evening through whole of the night we felt severe cold with snowfall for a few hours.The day after we visited the Kedar temple.We remained there for three nights in total.We hiked nearby places,did scating on ice.On the fourth day we descended to Gaurikund again.We took bath in the hot spring there.
After one day we again started for Badrinath in bus.It was a very monotonous journey.In Badrinath we felt powerful wind though not cold so much.Here also we spent three nights.Here we watched the beautiful glimpse of 'Nilkantha Parbat'.
River 'Alakananda' was also there to entertain us.
We returned to Rishikesh, then we visited Hardwar for a few days and finally returned to Calcutta in pathetic 'Janata Express' from New Delhi.We made some sight seeing in Delhi,too.
